Catholic Diocese of Gizo Complete 2 Seminars

The Catholic Diocese of Gizo is coming up with its program on the Media and the Hey Mum and Dad Program for the year 2021.

And on the weekend 16th to 18th this month of July the diocese runs the Media and the Hey Mum seminar here in St. Peters parish Gizo.

Bishop unveils new Te Maneaba in Wagina, challenges parishioners 


WAGINA community in Choiseul province has been blessed with a new community hall (Te Man
baea) which was officially opened on Sunday the 14th of January.
          The Te Maneaba known as the Holy Family Maneaba was about 40 meters in length and 20 meters wide was built since 2016.
The solemn ceremony commenced with the Eucharistic Mass celebration were a church elder has the opportunity to translate bishop's homily to the community.

Bishop Capelli’s message was focused on helping the children and in his message he challenged the community to examine the past, and more came to realize and identified some of their prioritized areas which turn to neglect the children.


The Bishop congratulated the community and the parish priest for the beautiful community hall, and asked them to use the Maneaba in planning for the betterment for the children.

After the Mass, parishioners witnessed the cutting of the ribbon (Opening of the Maneaba) by Bishop Capelli assisted by Fr. Stanis, Fr. Rueben and a Parish priest from Noro.

This was followed by meals, entertainments, and speeches.

During night program the parish priest, Fr. Stanislaus Mynt from Burma thanked the community, the families, organizations, and companies who financially supported the construction of the hall which cost them nearly half a million.

The PP Fr. Stanis also revealed to the community the many developments the Diocese has contributed to especially the Church building which more than a million dollars.

But Fr. Stanis stated that the Diocese never contributed to the Maneaba but he challenged the community to tolerate bishop two separate challenging messages; where the bishop asked to look forward to the better education for the children.

The flying bishop left afternoon on board his small seaplane, but the program continued till 5am morning next day.

Catholics Gizo Complete 3 days’ Seminar for Kindy Untrained Teachers.

About 30 kindergarten teacher participants from the Catholic diocese of Gizo have successfully completed a 3 days’ seminar which commenced on the 11th – 13th of July 2017.
          Participants were from Gizo parish and from Wagina, Moli, Voruvoru and Sirovanga parish in the Choiseul province.

A 3 days training seminar mainly to equip the kindergarten unqualified teachers to analysis some of the initial situation about the children in the class, this includes identifying the psychological characteristic of the children between 3-6 year of age, literacy, mathematics and management and emergency in the school.

The training may also enable teachers to bring the children more closely to the moral teaching of the Catholic faith.

During this seminar, Bishop Luciano Capelli sdb has the opportunity to give a session on the importance of the work they are doing with children back in their schools. He congratulated them to have made this initiative living their family behind and made it to this seminar.

He stressed also that teachers should care about the children who have come for them to be educated, and promised them to equip their school with resources.

The human being the “child ‘’ is important to address his/her education and should come from the heart. He continued to say “Teachers have a very important role to play in the education of the children to day, he also reminded them not to cause a lot of absenteeism in their school.”

The seminar involves different facilitators who take a turn to facilitate the types of activities which includes questions, comments, demonstrations, group work, discussions and presentations from the participants.

Facilitated by the Italian Volunteer Ms. Paolo, supervisor and teachers from St. Peter’s kindergarten Gizo and the Diocesan Secretary Ms. Wryne Bennett.

The seminar ended successfully with the handing over of the certificates to participants.

Solomon Heart made in Italy Celebrated Golden Jubilee’

Bishop Luciano Capelli sdb celebrated his golden anniversary as a Professed Salesian of Don Bosco on August 16, and renewed his vows to God in front of his church community… in front of three nice and tasty cakes

Visibly touched and emotionally moved he prayed the formula of Salesian Religious Profession. The bishop later explained that he has never felt so emotional in his life as he renewed the same commitment to God which he made 50 years ago. “At that time I did not know what I would face, now I know and therefore this renewal is more meaningful and complete even if done in a very simple and informal way… I promised gain like don Bosco to give my life to the last breath for my flock… how can you not be emotional about it?”

Bishop Luciano Capelli was born in Tirano (So) Italy on October 19th, 1947.

 From 1965—1971 he was in the philippines. He obtained his Bachelor Degree in Education—philosophy studies in 1968, work as Biology instructor for Don Bosco Technical College of Engineering in 1969-1970. Then in early 1971 he obtained Perpetual Profession and was a Classical Latin and teacher in Don Bosco Seminary College.

 In 1972 he returned to Italy to study theological studies at Instituto Teologico Sam Tommaso. He was ordained a deacon on December 10, 1974 at Sondrio. He completed his theological studies in 1975 in which he obtained his Bachelor Degree in Theology. He was Ordained a Priest in June 28, 1975 at Cologna di Tirano Sodrio (Italy).

 In 1975 to 1999 he went back to the Philippines. In 1976 to 1977 he was a Youth Center Director for Don Bosco Technical College of Engineering. From 1977- 1982 he became the Spiritual Director for Don Bosco Technical College of Engineering. In 1982 he was Rector for Don Bosco Technical Institute at Tarlac, Philippians.

 From 1985 to 1991, he went for further studies and obtained his Masters Degree in Education at Saint Joseph College of Graduate School, Manila. He was also Rector of Don Bosco Technical College of Engineering.

In 1991 to 1992 Bishop Luciano Capelli was Rector Don Bosco Hall, for the boarding house for University Students in the Philippines. In 1992 to 1993 Bishop Luciano Capelli becomes a provincial council member and from 1993 to 1999 he was the Provincial FIN province for Manila and Papua New Guinea.

He came to the Solomons in 1999, he built and founded and was Rector for Don Bosco Technical Institute at Henderson in Honiara and Don Bosco Rural Training Center and Mini Hjospital at Tetere North East Guadalcanal until 2007.

 

He was ordained Bishop of Gizo on October 21, 2007by His Eminence Cardinal Joseph Zen—Cardinal of China at Gizo. Over the weekend he celebrated three masses on the 14th Friday he celebrated Mass to mark the open day of the St Peter Training Centre and the Kindergarten rebuilt by him after the Gizo Tsunami and Earthquake of april 2 2007.

He marked 200 years of the Birth of DON Bosco, 15th He celebrated for the Mothers of St Peter Parish and on the 16th he renewed his commitments with a heartfelt speech that made everyone in tears.

Sr. Matrina Qilaziutu OP Celebrates Golden Jubilee.


Sr. Matrina Qilaziutu was so happy to celebrate her Golden Jubilee with her Dominican family and the communities in St. Peter Cathedral, Gizo, on 26 April.

Preside over her Jubilee Mass, Fr. Henry Paroi thanked God for the Blessing through Sr. Matrina for her journey as a Dominican sister. He also challenged other Dominicans to follow Sr. Matrina’s steps.

Sr. Matrina Qilaziutu comes from Tabarato Village in Choiseul, and she was accompanied by the late Sr. Joana Tebitara of Wagina Parish. On April 25, 1975, they made their first profession and took their vows from M.M. Josephine Campton OP, Prioress, in the presence of Bishop Eusebius Crawford.

She spent seven years in primary school before assisting Sr. M. Christopher at Moli Primary School from 1966 to 1968.

She completed her grade 4 teaching training at Honiara's Nazareth Apostolic Center before spending two years teaching at elementary schools run by the Diocese of Gizo.

 She then underwent the formation for three years before joining the Dominican family on April 25, 1975. She taught in Gizo Primary School after completing part-time training at Teaching College. She taught at Titiana, Nila, Pirakamae, Moli, and St. Anna's Vocational Training School for Girls.

Then, in 1993, she was named Vicarress Leader of the Dominican Sisters and was re-elected for four more years.

She studied theology at Nungulina College in Darwin from 2001 to 2002. And returned to Solomon to work as a formator for novices from 2006 to 20011. 

To shape and mold her as a Dominican Sister, she had her renewal in Australia while performing pastoral duties in the Diocese of Gizo and for the Sirovanga Catholic Women's Group.

She once served as a Vicariate Bursa for the Dominican Sisters of Gizo and the congregation.

Sr. Matrina is celebrating her Jubilee at Gizo, where she began her professional career 50 years ago.

Parish Moli  Launch Family Year.


St Joseph parish Moli launched the year of the family this 16 Sunday, July.

With the theme for the program “Evangelize and Evangelization families; salt and light of the society”, the launching was started with the procession from the priest’s house to the church before the Eucharistic Mass celebration commenced.

Sunday Eucharistic Mass in villages.

Since the outbreak of the Coronavirus in the provincial capital Taro more people have accepted the Eucharistic Mass celebration in their village. Posting online the Moli people groups Mr. Anthony Telovai a parish media volunteer said that the changes were to avoid further transmission to villages.
