About a Thousand Witness Mathew Lamana Priesthood Ordination.

Approximately one thousand people from the Holy Rosary Parish, Shortland Island, the Choiseul Parishes, and even from the Piano Parish in Bougainville gathered to witness the ordination of Rev. Mathew Lamana, OP, in Gamoae, Shortland Island.

We extend our gratitude to our Most Rev. Bishop Peter Houhou, who officiated the consecration of this newly ordained priest on Saturday, December 20, 2025.

Reporting on that event, Patere Jacob Qetobachu stated that the celebration commenced with a canoe procession alongside his parents, which was welcomed by the Gaomae Catholic Community.  They subsequently entrusted him to his family and relatives from the Piano Parish, who carried on the procession to the Church as a mark of respect for him as the new chief (new priest).

Many of his friends and relatives are extending their congratulations, particularly from his immediate family members, expressing that Fr. Mathew Lamana is a significant blessing to both the family and the people of Shortland Island.
