Diocese of Gizo in the Solomon Islands
It's been a busy time with the Diocesan Pastoral Assembly Planning Team meeting, the move of Bishop Chris to Auki, the final profession of four Dominican Sisters, the first profession of two Dominican Brothers, the Silver Jubilee of Sr. Leonie [see Sirovanga Parish] and the ordination of two priests in Auki [Frs Jeffrey and Albert] who will be assisting in the Gizo, Noro and Wagina Parishes.
On the 4th December, 2004, [shown from left to right] Srs. Teresa Tebaia OP, Patricia Reo OP, Veronica Boki OP, Jacquiline Kubebatu OP and committed themselves forever to the Lord in the Dominican Order.
Bishop Bernard O’Grady, Bishop of Gizo presided at the Eucharistic celebration, which was attended by family, friends and well-wishers.
[Far right] Sr. Rosemary Leuwnes OP, Prioress of the sisters from Australia was also present for the occasion as was Sr. Elizabeth Landon, former Novice Mistress. People from Moli and Wagina on Choiseul, Cannan on Kohigo Island, Western province and from Visale on Guadalcanal attended the prayerful celebrations, feastings and entertainment.
Cr. Ignatius Talifilu OP and Br. Charles Tani OP, committed themselves to a life of Chastity, obedience and poverty on 16th January 2005. Although it is their desire to commit themselves to the Lord forever, as required by the church, their first profession has been made for three years. Fr. Stephen Kamoa OP, Vicar-Provincial, accepted their profession at the St. Petere the Apostle Cathedral, Gizo on completion of their novitiate at the Dominican Novitiate House at Loga Island, Gizo, Western Province.
Family, parents, relatives and friends attended the liturgical celebration. The day’s celebration ended with feasting and cutting of the first profession cake prepared by the Dominican sisters at Loga. The two brothers are now studying for the priesthood at Bomana, PNG.
This photo shows the blessing of the oils for Easter. This was done early to correspond with all priests being"in town".
Recently, the Diocesan Pastoral Assembly Planning Team met in Gizo. Some of the participants are shown here. Firstly we have Father Michael Fallon and Jill Gibbs. The second photo shows two of the local participants- Francis from Noro Parish and Chris from Wagina Parish.
